Dear Reader,

Spring is here and many of us want to spruce up our spaces, either for our own enjoyment or to better appeal to a prospective buyer.  Given today’s economy, our design team has come up with some interesting and economical ways to make a big impact for little money.  They suggest thinking about the smaller spaces in your home: powder room, master bath or maybe just a new quilt or bedspread for the bedroom.  We have also included an article about how a few small changes in a kitchen can really punch up the look and give an updated appearance.

Enjoy!

-Powder Rooms
By Better Homes and Garden

Keep Everything Small

Everything in this powder room had to be small, even the window, but by keeping elements to a minimum and using beadboard paneling on the walls for visual punch, this small bathroom looks great and works well. Note how the sink and faucet were set into a small furniture piece that was kept open underneath.

Keep Small Rooms Simple

Simple, small-scale fixtures like this pedestal sink and toilet are often the best solution for a particularly small powder room like this one. Note how the homeowners used black-and-white toile wallpaper with an over-size pattern to play off the small size of the room.

Paint an Accent Wall

Establish the room's restful tone with a serene hue around the bed. Then, relive favorite trips by elevating vacation photos to art with a trio of classic, gallery-style frames.

Layer Lush Linens

Pile on an assortment of à la carte bedding: 300 thread-count combed cotton sheets, a satin quilt, and a half-dozen pillows in solids, stripes, and patterns.
